Granny Swindled Out of Thousands in Beechdale Scam
Two-Faced Crooks Target Vulnerable Pensioner
An 83-year-old woman from Nottingham’s Beechdale was duped by two men pretending to be tradesmen. Claiming they needed to do urgent work on her home, the pair lured her into signing cheques worth thousands on August 8 and October 19, 2022. The poor pensioner was also harassed repeatedly during the scam.

James Cunningham, 38, from Coventry Road, Bedworth, Warwickshire, was finally caught on January 10, 2023. He had tried to escape the police and flee the county after the crime came to light. Cunningham faced charges including robbery, fraud by false representation, and five counts of handling criminal property when he appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on January 12. He was remanded in custody and will next appear at Nottingham Crown Court on February 9.

Another man, 53-year-old Charlie Lee from Mile Tree Lane, Coventry, was charged with robbery, burglary, attempted burglary, fraud, and possession of criminal property. Lee pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court on December 19 and is currently remanded in custody as the case continues.
Police Vow to Seek Justice
