Get Tested Fast: HIV Testing Week Kicks Off in Croydon

Starting Monday, February 6, Croydon residents are urged to take a quick, easy HIV test and get results in minutes during HIV Testing Week.

Why Testing Matters

The council is backing this campaign to slash the number of undiagnosed or late-diagnosed HIV cases. Early detection means better health for those living with HIV and dramatically cuts the risk of passing it on.

Where to Get Tested

Charities Aids Health Foundation (AHF) and KwaAfrica will offer rapid HIV tests at several local spots:

  • Monday, Feb 6, 12pm-4pm – CVA Resource Centre, 82 London Road, CR0 2TB (opposite Lidl)
  • Wednesday, Feb 8, 5pm-7pm – Carers Support Centre, 24 George Street, CR0 1PB (walk-ins welcome or book at freeHIVtest.uk)
  • Thursday, Feb 9, 1pm-5pm – CVA Resource Centre, 82 London Road, CR0 2TB (opposite Lidl)
  • Sunday, Feb 12, 4pm-7pm – Uganda Croydon Catholic Community event, St Chad’s Catholic Church Hall, Burgoyne Road, SE25 6XN

These events run alongside support from Croydon BME Forum and other groups offering health and wellbeing advice.

Wrap-up Event: International Condom Day

On Monday, February 13, from 10am to 3pm, AHF, KwaAfrica, and Croydon Health Services NHS Trust will mark International Condom Day with an info event at Boots Pharmacy, 2-18 Whitgift Centre, CR9 1SN.

Test Anywhere, Anytime

Free self-test HIV kits are available anytime at freeHIVtest.uk and freetesting.hiv. Regular testing is also available through sexual health clinics, GPs, and HIV charities. Diagnosed individuals in the UK get free treatment and care.

“I Test” Campaign: Take Control of Your Health

This year’s theme, I Test, encourages people to get tested whether they want to live life fully regardless of results or join the drive to end HIV.

“We are encouraging residents to use this opportunity during HIV Testing Week to get tested so that you can receive early and effective treatment if needed,” said Councillor Yvette Hopley, cabinet member for health and adult social care. “Anyone can get a confidential HIV test at one of Croydon’s community testing sites. At the events, you will also find information and support to help you take care of your health and protect yourself and others from illness.”
