John Lewis has won a court case against an author who claimed that the department store had copied her character in their 2019 Christmas advert featuring a friendly green dragon named Edgar

Fay Evans had claimed similarities between John Lewis’ Edgar and her character Fred the Fire-Sneezing Dragon. However, a judge at the High Court has ruled that there was no evidence that John Lewis’ team had been aware of Evans’ character, and that there were substantial differences between the two works.
