RMT Strike Slashes Train Services on Great Northern, Southern, Thameslink, and Gatwick Express
Major Disruption Hits 16 and 18 March
Passengers face chaos as RMT union members strike on 16 and 18 March, cutting service to just a third of normal levels. Some routes will see no trains at all, leaving travellers stranded or jammed onto overcrowded services.
Rush Hour Hell Expected
Expect packed first and last trains, long waits, and no replacement transport. Commuters are urged to travel later in the day or head home earlier to avoid the crush. Southern aims to run more services than recent strikes but will still start late and finish early.

Services will also start late on 17 and 19 March. Passengers must check travel updates in advance and on the day via nationalrail.co.uk. Jenny Saunders, Customer Services Director, said:
“I truly appreciate how hard this is going to be for our customers. These national strikes are terrible for everyone and are the last thing anyone wants as we try to regrow the railway after the pandemic.”
She apologised for the chaos and urged travellers to check specific station updates due to varying impacts across routes.
