The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has initiated an independent investigation into a fatal road collision involving a motorcycle that occurred in central London earlier today.
The collision took place at approximately 6:45 am on Monday, and it reportedly transpired after the motorcycle failed to stop for two marked Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) motorbikes on Tottenham Court Road.
Tragically, the motorcycle’s 18-year-old driver lost his life at the scene after being involved in a collision with a taxi. A 17-year-old pillion passenger on the motorcycle sustained injuries that, while significant, are not believed to be life-threatening.
Upon being informed of the incident by the MPS, the IOPC dispatched investigators to the scene and the police post-incident procedure to commence their inquiries. The IOPC spokesperson expressed their condolences, stating, “Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident.”
As the independent investigation unfolds, the IOPC will meticulously examine the circumstances surrounding the collision to ascertain the events leading up to this unfortunate incident and whether there were any contributing factors. The aim is to provide clarity and transparency in the investigation process, ensuring that all aspects are thoroughly examined.
