Lithuanian Lorry Driver Charged After £6.8 Million Cocaine Seizure In Liverpool

In a significant development of an ongoing National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation, a Lithuanian lorry driver has been charged after a staggering £6.8 million worth of cocaine was seized by authorities in Liverpool.

The arrest came after NCA officers intercepted Edgaras Slusnys, 37, a resident of Northern Ireland, on Friday evening, September 23. The lorry he was driving, registered with a Northern Ireland-based haulier, was subjected to a thorough search, with the collaboration of Merseyside Police and Border Force.

Within the lorry’s trailer, officers discovered a hidden compartment concealed within the rear doors. Inside this sophisticated hide, they uncovered a staggering 136 kilograms of cocaine, a Class A drug. This quantity of illicit substance, if it had reached the streets, would have had an estimated street value of £6.8 million.

In response to this major drug seizure, Edgaras Slusnys was promptly charged with possession with intent to supply Class A drugs. He appeared before Liverpool Magistrates Court on September 25 and has been remanded in custody pending a further court appearance, scheduled for October 23 at Liverpool Crown Court.

NCA Branch Commander David Cunningham emphasised the significance of this operation, stating, “This seizure has dealt a significant blow to an organised crime gang, and removed a substantial quantity of dangerous drugs from the streets. The investigation continues to identify and bring to justice all those involved.”
