Body Shop Stores in Southeast London at Risk as Beauty Chain Hits Administration
The future of seven Body Shop stores in southeast London is under serious threat after the iconic beauty brand plunged into administration.
Seven Southeast London Stores on the Brink
The Body Shop operates over 200 outlets across the UK, including seven in southeast London and one in Dartford. Now, all are facing uncertainty. Insolvency specialists FRP Advisory have taken the reins to manage the administration process.
From Ethical Idol to Financial Struggles
Since its launch in 1976 by Anita and Gordon Roddick, The Body Shop earned a reputation for its ethical stance, championing cruelty-free and sustainably sourced cosmetics and skincare.
But the chain’s fortunes took a hit after Aurelius snapped up the business in January for £207 million from Natura & Co. At that time, the global workforce stood at around 10,000 employees.
What’s Next for South London Stores?
It’s unclear which, if any, southeast London stores will shut. FRP Advisory says they’re looking into all options to save the business amid a tough UK retail climate that’s pushed the brand towards financial collapse.
Trading to Continue – For Now
Despite administration, The Body Shop will keep trading both in-store and online. The process only affects UK operations, leaving international franchises unaffected.
“We are committed to keeping The Body Shop a modern, dynamic beauty brand,” said FRP. “Our goal is to stabilise the UK business despite ongoing retail challenges.”
Customers and staff await news on the fate of these beloved high street staples as the situation unfolds.
