ScottishPower Pumps £4 Million into Lung Cancer Fight

Energy giant ScottishPower has pledged a hefty £4 million to Cancer Research UK’s Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence (LCCE). This cash injection fuels groundbreaking research into lung cancer, one of the UK’s deadliest diseases.

Big Plans Backed by Big Money

This latest donation is part of ScottishPower’s ambitious £10 million target by 2029, adding to the £40 million raised since teaming up with CRUK in 2012. The funds will supercharge efforts to improve lung cancer treatments, detection, and prevention strategies.

Experts Unite to Beat Lung Cancer

The LCCE brings together top researchers to develop cutting-edge therapies for this tough-to-treat killer. Michelle Mitchell, CEO of Cancer Research UK, said:

“We’re thrilled ScottishPower will support the CRUK Lung Cancer Centre of Excellence and the broad work of the charity. Over the past decade, the Centre has advanced treatment for lung cancer. With ScottishPower’s support, we can sustain momentum and enhance research infrastructure to discover new methods for preventing, detecting, and treating lung cancer.”

ScottishPower’s Longstanding Cancer Crusade

ScottishPower CEO Andrew Ward expressed pride in the ongoing partnership:

“Cancer affects all of us, whether personally or through someone we care for. Lung cancer is one of the UK’s biggest killers, and it’s incredibly important to me that this money goes where it’s needed most—helping with research to ultimately help more people live longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.”

Since 2012, ScottishPower has supported CRUK through its Help Beat Cancer energy tariff, customer and employee fundraising, and sponsorship of major campaigns like Race for Life and Stand Up to Cancer.

Cracking the Code on Air Pollution and Cancer

The funding also backs pioneering research into how air pollution contributes to lung cancer, especially in non-smokers. ScottishPower previously funded the TOPICAL study during COP26 in Glasgow, helping shape new approaches to diagnosis and treatment.

Hope for a Cancer-Free Future

ScottishPower’s support has empowered over 4,000 UK scientists, doctors, and nurses. This latest pledge signals a firm commitment to beating cancer through research, prevention, and community action.

Together, they aim to turn the tide on one of the world’s most ruthless diseases.
