A man from Plumstead has been charged after being arrested on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child.

Ian James Brooker, 45, of Balgowan Street, was arrested on December 21 following a report from a third party. Officers from the Metropolitan Police detained him at around 1pm that day.

Brooker has since been charged with engaging in sexual communication with a child. He appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on December 23, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The 45-year-old has been granted bail and is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on February 4, 2025, for sentencing.

Police Statement

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the arrest and charges, stating:

A man was arrested at 1:00pm on Saturday, December 21, in Plumstead on suspicion of engaging in sexual communication with a child. The arrest followed a report from a third party.

“Ian James Brooker, 45, of Balgowan Street, Plumstead, has since been charged with engaging in sexual communication with a child. He appeared at Bexley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 23, where he pleaded guilty and was bailed ahead of his next appearance at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 4.
