Body Found in Search for Missing Jogger Jenny Hall in Durham

Tragic Discovery: A body has been found during the search for missing 23-year-old jogger Jenny Hall, Durham Police confirmed today.

Body Found in Remote Teesdale

Jenny Hall vanished last week after leaving her Barracks Farm home in County Durham shortly after 3pm on Tuesday, February 18. The young woman was reported missing after setting out in her car.

Following days of tireless searching, officers discovered a body in a remote part of Teesdale early this morning, just after 9:30am.

Durham Police issued a statement: “We’re sorry to report that officers searching for missing woman Jenny Hall have sadly found a body. Officers carried out an extensive search alongside specialist partners and have been working around the clock to locate Jenny after she went missing on February 18. The body was found in a very remote area in Teesdale just after 9.30am today.”

Formal identification is pending. Jenny’s family has been informed and is receiving specialist support. Police described this as a “devastating time” and have asked for privacy.

No Suspicious Circumstances

Durham Police confirmed at this stage there are no signs of foul play. They are preparing a file for the coroner who will guide the next steps in the investigation.

“It is not believed there are any suspicious circumstances, and a file will be prepared for the coroner,” the statement read.

Huge Search Effort

The discovery caps a huge multi-agency hunt involving mountain rescue teams, sniffer dogs, specialist drones, and HM Coastguard officers. They scoured Hamsterley Forest and surrounding Teesdale throughout the week.

Digital teams also worked round the clock analysing Jenny’s mobile phone, smartwatch, and running apps to trace her last movements.

Jenny’s red Ford Focus was found near remote moorland between Eggleston and Stanhope on Wednesday, which shifted search focus to that area.

Community in Shock and Mourning

Jenny was well-known locally as a passionate long-distance runner who loved exploring County Durham’s rural trails. Her disappearance sparked widespread concern, with locals volunteering to help police search.

Since the body was found, heartfelt condolences have poured in via social media from friends and the community.

Local MP Sam Rushworth said: “This is heart-wrenching news. My deepest sympathies go out to Jenny’s family and friends. I want to thank all the emergency services and volunteers who dedicated their time to the search. The entire community stands with Jenny’s family during this incredibly difficult time.”
