Massive M25 Weekend Shutdown Kicks Off on £317 Million Upgrade

A full weekend closure of the M25 between Junction 10 (Wisley) and Junction 11 (Chertsey) is now underway — and running smoothly. The shutdown started at 9pm on Friday, 7 March, and will last until 6am on Monday, 10 March. It’s all part of a massive scheme to improve the notorious junction.

What’s the Big Project About?

The colossal £317 million M25 Junction 10 improvement project began in summer 2022 and is set to wrap up by spring 2026. The goal? To slash congestion at the Wisley Interchange, boost road safety, deliver more reliable journeys, and breathe new life into the surrounding heathland.

  • Cut traffic jams at Junction 10
  • Make driving safer for all
  • Ensure smoother, dependable trips
  • Restore local heathland areas

How to Navigate the Closure: Diversions Explained

Drivers are urged to avoid this section of the M25 if they can. But if you must travel, follow these diversion routes to dodge the shut section:

Clockwise (Junction 10 to Junction 11)

  • Exit M25 at Junction 10
  • Take the A3 northbound
  • Follow A245 and A320 via Painshill
  • Rejoin M25 at Junction 11

Anticlockwise (Junction 11 to Junction 10)

  • Exit M25 at Junction 11
  • Head southbound on A320
  • Take A245 through Painshill
  • Use A3 southbound to rejoin M25 at Junction 10

For longer trips, consider using the Dartford Crossing to bypass the jam-packed closure entirely.

What’s Coming Up? Future Weekend Closures

This isn’t a one-off. Brace yourselves for more full weekend shutdowns as work carries on:

  • 21-24 March 2025: Full M25 closure between Junction 10 and Junction 11 for more bridge demolition. Same diversions apply.
  • 11-14 April 2025: Full A3 closure between Junction 10 and Painshill Roundabout/A245. Diversion details to be announced later.
