Smoke on District Line Track Triggers Victoria Underground Station Closure London

Victoria Underground Station was closed on Friday night after smoke was detected on the District Line eastbound track, prompting a swift response from emergency services and causing significant disruption to late-evening travel in central London.

The alarm was raised at approximately 10:30pm, with reports of smoke emanating from the eastbound track  at Victoria Station  on Terminus Place.

Multiple emergency response units, including fire crews and transport officials, were dispatched to the incident.

Emergency Response and Safety Measures

In response to the smoke detection, Transport for London (TfL) and the London Fire Brigade evacuated the station as a precaution while fire crews investigated the source of the smoke. No injuries were reported.

While the incident is not currently believed to involve flames, smoke from the track or line equipment has prompted a full safety inspection. Emergency services remain on site to monitor the situation.

Disruption to Services

As of 11:30pm, Victoria Station remains closed, and services on the District Line eastbound through the station are suspended. Passengers on the Victoria, District, and Circle Lines have been advised to seek alternative routes.

London buses are currently accepting valid Tube tickets, and replacement transport arrangements have been put in place to assist those travelling between nearby stations.

TfL Statement

A spokesperson for TfL said:
