A loaded recovery truck has been seized after Roads Policing Unit (RPU) officers stopped it on the M4 — only to discover it was being driven illegally by a provisional licence holder.
The driver, who was not listed on the vehicle’s insurance policy, was pulled over during routine patrols. Upon further checks, officers found that not only was the individual driving without a full licence, but they were also uninsured to operate the truck.
The vehicle was immediately seized, and both the driver and the registered owner have been reported for multiple offences. The vehicle owner faces charges for permitting the offences to take place, while the driver has been reported for driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and without insurance.
A police spokesperson said:
“Driving a loaded recovery truck on a motorway without the proper qualifications and insurance is reckless and puts all road users at risk. Thanks to proactive policing, this dangerous situation was quickly brought under control.
Both individuals are now due to appear in court, where they could face substantial fines, penalty points, or potential disqualification from driving.
The incident has once again highlighted concerns over unlicensed and uninsured drivers on UK roads, with authorities urging all motorists to ensure they meet the legal requirements before getting behind the wheel.
