Repeat Offender Kristie Mcintosh Arrested Again Weeks After Court Leniency

A serial shoplifter who walked free from court just weeks ago has been remanded in custody after striking again.

Kristie Mcintosh, 37, was first arrested on April 2 after stealing £150 worth of goods from the Co-op on London Road, Bromley. Despite pleading guilty to two thefts at Bromley Magistrates’ Court the following day, she was allowed to walk free with just £91 in compensation to pay, having spent one night in custody.

Latest Theft Lands Mcintosh in Custody

On Thursday, May 8, Mcintosh was arrested again for stealing £72 worth of items from another Co-op branch. She appeared before Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday (May 9), where she pleaded guilty to the fresh offence.

This time, the court remanded her in custody until sentencing on May 30, citing her repeated offending.

Previous Leniency Questioned

Mcintosh’s case has drawn criticism after she was released in April despite her extensive criminal record of similar offences. Legal observers say it highlights the challenges of balancing rehabilitation and public protection in cases involving prolific repeat offenders.

A court source said:

“Mcintosh’s record is concerning. The court previously gave her an opportunity, but it seems she has reoffended within a matter of days.”

Ongoing Retail Crime Concerns

Retailers have raised alarm about increasing shoplifting incidents, particularly repeat offenders targeting the same chain stores. The Co-op has been vocal in demanding tougher sentencing and better police response for thefts across its UK branches.

According to the British Retail Consortium, shoplifting cost UK retailers nearly £1 billion in 2024.
