Eglinton Road Murder Trial: Three Teenagers Accused in Fatal Stabbing of Daejaun Campbell

Default Heading H1

Three teenagers are standing trial at the Old Bailey accused of the murder of 18-year-old Daejaun Campbell, who died in a targeted machete attack on Eglinton Road, south-east London, last September.

The defendants are Jacob Losiewicz, 18, Marko Balaz, 19 — both from Abbey Wood — and a 17-year-old boy who cannot be named due to legal restrictions. All three deny murder, though the younger defendant has admitted possessing a machete in public.

“Targeted” Knife Attack in Abbey Wood

The incident occurred on September 22, 2024, when Daejaun Campbell was fatally attacked outside a house on Eglinton Road. Prosecutor Mukul Chawla KC told the jury the group had “targeted” Daejaun as he walked past the property.

“Two of the defendants, Marko Balaz and [the 17-year-old], physically attacked Daejaun Campbell while the third, Jacob Losiewicz, was in close proximity providing encouragement,” said Chawla.

CCTV footage allegedly shows the 17-year-old picking up the machete used in the stabbing. Witnesses described hearing screams for help, with one saying they heard “three to four screams of distress”.

Drug Exploitation Possibly Linked

Although the motive remains unclear, prosecutors believe Daejaun may have been carrying drugs and cash, possibly linked to county lines exploitation. Chawla explained that Daejaun “may have been used as a carrier and supplier of drugs” because of his age and vulnerability.

During the attack, Daejaun reportedly threw a large knife in self-defence, which shattered on a metal railing. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Court Proceedings Underway

The trial, which began on Friday, June 20, continues at the Old Bailey. All three defendants have denied murder charges. The 17-year-old’s guilty plea to possession of an offensive weapon has been accepted by the court.
