Met Police Smash 1,000 Arrests Using Live Facial Recognition
The Metropolitan Police Service has hit a milestone with more than 1,000 arrests made thanks to cutting-edge Live Facial Recognition (LFR) technology. Among those caught are rapists, paedophiles, and violent offenders, ripped from the streets of London.
Cracking Down on Serious Crime
The Met revealed that out of these arrests, 773 suspects have been charged or cautioned. This includes 93 registered sex offenders and over 100 individuals tied to crimes against women and girls such as domestic abuse, stalking, and rape.
“LFR is not just about catching 123 criminals but delivering justice for victims more efficiently,” said Lindsey Chiswick, national LFR lead.
Spotlight on High-Profile Apprehensions
- David Cheneler, 73, a registered sex offender, was caught breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order after being detected near a six-year-old by LFR cameras.
- Adenola Akindutire, 22, who brutally robbed a man with a machete in Hayes, was tracked down and arrested in Stratford after trying to evade police.
- Another suspect wanted for theft was picked up in Dalston thanks to LFR.
