Massive Landfill Blaze Sparks Smoke Warnings in Rainham
Emergency crews are battling a major fire at a landfill site on Launders Lane, Rainham, tonight (Friday, 18 July). Thick smoke is billowing across the area, forcing locals to keep windows and doors firmly shut.
Firefighters Race to Tackle Raging Landfill Fire
The 1 Fire Brigade rushed to the scene at 6:24pm with four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Wennington and nearby stations. They’re using a 32-metre turntable ladder as a water tower to dunk the flames from above.
The blaze involves heaps of waste, producing a dense smoke cloud that’s drifting over nearby homes and roads.
Residents Urged to Stay Safe as Roads Close
- Launders Lane is currently closed to traffic due to the fire.
- Officials warn residents to keep all windows and doors closed to avoid smoke inhalation.
