A grieving family has paid a heartbreaking tribute to four-year-old Jan, who tragically died after being struck by a bus outside Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (QEQM) Hospital on Thursday, 7 August 2025.

Jan, described as a “funny, cheeky little boy with a smile that lit up every room,” was at the hospital with his family when he was involved in the fatal collision near the A&E entrance just after 4pm. Despite immediate intervention, he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

His mother, Azaria Green, said the tragedy has left the entire family “devastated, lost, and completely heartbroken.

“Jan was the youngest of five. My beautiful, funny, cheeky little boy. His giggles, his cuddles, the way he curled into me at night – it’s all gone in the blink of an eye,” she wrote.
“I never even got the chance to say goodbye.”

In a cruel twist of fate, the family is now mourning two losses just days apart. A relative revealed that the tragedy comes only six days after the death of their grandmother.

“Not only did I lose my mum six days ago, now we’ve lost one of the babies of the family too. It’s unbearable. We’re planning two funerals in one week,” the relative shared.

Fundraiser Launched for Jan’s Burial

The family has launched a GoFundMe appeal in Jan’s name, hoping to raise funds to give the little boy a funeral that reflects the love and light he brought into their lives.

“We want nothing more than to give Jan the most beautiful burial,” said Azaria. “Please, if anyone can help us – whether it’s a donation or just sharing the fundraiser – we would be so grateful.”

How to Help

Anyone wishing to support the family can donate to the official GoFundMe campaign [link here if available], which is raising funds for Jan’s funeral and helping the family navigate this unimaginable time.

From Azaria – A Mother’s Final Words to Her Son:

“You’ll never know how much I love you, my sweet boy.
I miss you in my bed tonight.
I miss your voice.
I miss your smile.
I will miss you for the rest of my life.”

Kent Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident. Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage are urged to contact officers quoting reference KH//055/25.
