Son Jailed for Life in Brutal Stabbing of His Mother
A 24-year-old man has been locked up for life after stabbing his mother to death in a horrifying attack at her home.
Oliver Grange fatally stabbed his 49-year-old mother, Rachel Dixon, at her house on Skelmersdale Road, Clacton, on 21 March 2025.
Police Forced to Break In After Grange Locks Front Door
Officers rushed to the scene after reports of a serious assault. They found Grange standing at the front door, which he locked when challenged, forcing police to enter through the back. They caught him in the garden and arrested him on suspicion of murder.
A post-mortem revealed Ms Dixon died from a fatal stab wound. Despite immediate efforts from police and paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
During questioning, Grange read from a prepared statement but refused to answer further questions.
Guilty Plea Leads to Life Sentence with Minimum 15 Years
Grange pleaded guilty to murder at Chelmsford Crown Court on 26 June. Just over two months later, on 29 August, he was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 15 years behind bars.
Investigator Condemns ‘Horrific and Violent Attack’
Detective Chief Inspector Greg Wood said: “This was a truly horrific and violent attack. While Grange has now been sentenced, it does not detract from the fact that Rachel’s future has been taken away from her and her loved ones continue to be devastated by their loss.
Our thoughts remain with Rachel’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. The officers who attended worked with paramedics to try and save Rachel that day, and bravely went into the house to apprehend Grange.”
Family Pay Heartbreaking Tribute
“Our beautiful daughter, sister, mother and auntie, who will be greatly missed by all, was taken away from us far too soon,” said Rachel’s family.
