Blaze Breaks Out in HMP Winchester Cell – Inmate Treated

A prison cell fire at HMP Winchester this afternoon has left an inmate receiving medical care. Emergency services rushed to the scene on Romsey Road after the blaze broke out in a cell on B wing.

Massive Response: Fire Engines and Ambulances Flood Prison

  • Three fire engines were deployed – one from Winchester and two from nearby Eastleigh.
  • Five ambulances, including a hazardous area response team (HART), also arrived to assist.
  • South Central Ambulance Service received the call at 3:02pm from the fire service reporting the cell fire.

Prisoner Rescued and Cared For Amid Riots Rumours

Contrary to social media rumours of a full-blown riot and multiple cell fires, officials confirmed only one cell was involved. The prisoner was swiftly evacuated and is now under the care of the prison’s healthcare team.

“We sent our hazardous area response team and several vehicles along with ambulance officers,” confirmed South Central Ambulance Service. “The inmate is currently being treated.”

Fire Service Keeps Details Under Wraps

A Hampshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said they attended from 3pm, leaving shortly after 4:15pm. “We do not give out further details about why we are at the prison,” they added.
