Youths Run Riot in York – PCSO Assaulted Amid Chaos
Chaos broke out on Askham Lane, Westfield Place, and Westfield Park last night as a large group of youths gathered between 5.30pm and 6.45pm. Police officers rushed to the scene, but the situation quickly turned violent.
PCSO Attacked During Disorderly Scene
While trying to control the disturbance, a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) was assaulted. The night also saw several public order offences and widespread anti-social behaviour.
Police Launch Probe and Urge Public to Speak Up
North Yorkshire Police are now investigating the incident, reviewing bodycam footage from officers on the scene.
Senior Commander for York, Superintendent Mark Khan, slammed the behaviour:
“This type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated on the streets of York.
I am appalled that a member of police staff was assaulted during this incident. This member of staff is now receiving support and we will be taking swift action to deal with those responsible.
Once again, I would urge members of the local community to work with the police and pass on any information that could assist with our 1 investigation immediately.”
