A 24-year-old Coventry man has appeared in court accused of a brutal stabbing at Oxford Brookes University accommodation.

Knife Attack at Student Housing

Thomas Mesai Siyoum, from Heath Crescent, Coventry, went on trial at Oxford Crown Court on March 9, 2026. He stands charged over an incident on July 20, 2025, at student halls on James Wolfe Road.

The victim, Abubaker Kadir, had recently arrived in the UK as an asylum seeker in March 2025 and worked as a cleaner at the university accommodation.

Court Details and Charges

Siyoum denies the serious section 18 wounding with intent charge — a grievous bodily harm offence. However, he admits to the lesser section 20 unlawful wounding charge and possession of a knife in a public place.
