A man has been found guilty of murdering his housemate after fatally stabbing him at a shared property in Birmingham. Abdou Sillah, 24, was convicted of the murder of Kiirpal Nhian, 29, following a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. The pair lived together at a shared address on Swanage Road, Small Heath.
Victim found with fatal stab wound
Emergency services were called to the property shortly before 6.40pm on 20 December last year following reports that a man had been found collapsed in the garden, not breathing.
Paramedics discovered Kiirpal suffering from a stab wound to the chest. Despite the efforts of emergency services, the 29-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later.
CCTV helped identify suspect
A homicide investigation was launched by West Midlands Police, with detectives carrying out extensive CCTV enquiries.
Investigators identified Sillah on footage fleeing the address shortly after the stabbing. He was arrested a few days later while in possession of a knife and wearing clothing similar to that seen in the CCTV footage.
Following the investigation, Sillah was charged with murder and possession of a bladed article.
Guilty verdict
Appearing before Birmingham Crown Court, Sillah denied the charges but was found guilty of murder and possession of a bladed article. He is due to be sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on 28 September.
West Midlands Police said the conviction followed a detailed investigation by detectives, who pieced together CCTV, forensic evidence and witness accounts to establish the events leading to Kiirpal Nhian’s death.
