Hero cop suffers head injury tackling beer thief on High Street!
Drama unfolded at 8.30pm on Tuesday, 22 March 2022, when a 36-year-old man from Swanley tried to make a sneaky getaway after stealing eight cans of beer from a Co-op on the High Street.
Thief caught after desperate foot chase
The suspect was caught red-handed by staff – and an off-duty officer who flashed his warrant card to confront him. But the crook bolted, sparking a tense foot pursuit.
Headbutt attack on off-duty officer
As the suspect was finally restrained with help from a brave passerby, the officer was allegedly headbutted during the struggle, suffering a head injury.
Suspect in custody but later released
Police arrested the 36-year-old on suspicion of theft, assault on an emergency worker, and public order offences. He was later released while investigations continue.
