A chilling find near a Morrisons store in Stoke-on-Trent has sent shockwaves through the community after a passerby discovered human skeletal remains. The grim discovery has triggered a full-scale police investigation at Festival Park.
Grim Discovery Shuts Down Festival Park
Staffordshire Police were called at around 3:40pm on Sunday after a member of the public spotted what looked like human bones in a wooded area close to the Morrisons superstore and several retail units at Festival Park. The area was immediately sealed off as forensic teams moved in to comb the site for clues.
Forensic Teams Swarm Scene
By Monday morning, officers confirmed the remains are human but have yet to identify who they belong to. A heavy police presence remains, with four vehicles and a large blue forensic tent erected in the woods. Specialists in white suits have been thoroughly investigating the area, collecting evidence and piecing together the mystery.
“We were called to reports of skeletal remains found by a member of the public on land near Festival Park,” a Staffordshire Police spokesperson said. “We can now confirm the remains are human but have not been formally identified. Although this is an unsettling discovery, we have a visible presence to investigate, reassure locals, and address any concerns.”
Investigation Ongoing – Public Urged to Help
The investigation looks set to drag on as experts work to establish how long the remains have been there and if foul play was involved. Police have extended their cordon to block off a path between Morrisons and other areas of Festival Park, restricting access amid the ongoing probe.
Shoppers and local businesses have voiced their shock. One regular visitor, who preferred to stay anonymous, said: “It’s terrifying to think something like this has been here all this time. I walk through this park regularly – it’s really unsettling.”
Authorities are pleading for anyone with information to come forward. Witnesses or anyone with relevant tips should contact Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 397 from March 2.
The local community remains on edge, anxiously waiting for updates as forensic teams dig deeper into the grim discovery right in the heart of Festival Park.
