Worker Dies After Horror Incident at Cambridge Circus
A man suffered fatal injuries at Cambridge Circus on Friday despite a massive emergency response. The victim, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene.
Emergency Services Race to Scene
At 1.05pm, ambulances, firefighters, and the London Air Ambulance were scrambled to Shaftesbury Avenue near Charing Cross Road. Police were alerted five minutes later to the critical situation.
Crush Injury While Working on Telescopic Urinal
According to the Metropolitan Police, the man sustained crush injuries while working on a telescopic urinal at the location. Despite being released earlier that day, he was later pronounced dead at the scene.
“Despite the efforts of emergency services, the man who was critically injured in Cambridge Circus was pronounced dead at the scene,” said a police spokesman.
“His next of kin has been notified. Police were called at around 1.10pm on Friday January 27 to a seriously injured man at Cambridge Circus, W1.”
Massive Rescue Effort Launched
The London Ambulance Service confirmed they sent multiple units including a hazardous area response team, tactical response unit, and a fast response medic car.
“We were called to reports of an incident on Shaftesbury Avenue, Charing Cross, and dispatched a number of resources to the scene,” a spokesman stated.
An investigation into the precise cause of the crush injury is underway. Authorities continue to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
