Murder Probe Underway After Man Stabbed to Death at East Croydon Station
Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was fatally stabbed at the ticket barriers of East Croydon Railway Station. The scene remains sealed off, with a white and yellow tent covering the victim on an overhead bridge where the attack took place.
Victim Dies Despite Emergency Efforts
The serious assault happened around 4:45pm on 27 January. British Transport Police and the Metropolitan Police rushed to the scene following reports of a stabbing near the back entrance by Ruskin Square.
Ambulance crews and the London Air Ambulance attended immediately. Staff performed CPR at the scene, but sadly, the young man was pronounced dead there.
Crime Scene Lockdown as Murder Enquiry Gets Underway
A cordon remains in place around the area as detectives launch a full murder investigation. Detective Superintendent Gareth Williams of British Transport Police said:
“This was a deeply shocking incident outside a busy transport hub. A young man has tragically lost his life, and this will be heart-breaking news for his family. We are urgently appealing for witnesses to come forward. If you were near East Croydon station around 4.30pm and saw anything suspicious, please contact us immediately.”
Williams added that patrols in East Croydon have increased and additional Stop and Search powers have been authorised to aid the investigation.
Transport Services Unaffected So Far
Rail and TramLink services into East Croydon are currently running as usual. Police continue to gather information and urge anyone with knowledge of the stabbing to speak up.
