Terror Threat! Oil Tanker Held Hostage Off Isle of Wight

A Liberian-flagged oil tanker, the 228-metre Nave Andromeda, has been forced to drop anchor off the Isle of Wight after terrorists tried to seize control of the ship. The tanker, which set sail from Nigeria earlier this month, is now anchored near Ventnor, east of the island.

Stowaways Spark High-Stakes Hijack Attempt

The crew have barricaded themselves in safe quarters after discovering a number of stowaways onboard attempting to hijack the vessel. Authorities have responded swiftly to the unfolding drama, creating a 3-mile exclusion zone around the ship. Locals in Shanklin and Ventnor report seeing the tanker clearly from high vantage points.

Armed Forces on High Alert

A Coastguard Rescue 175 helicopter from Lee-on-Solent is circling above the scene. Meanwhile, an operation involving the Royal Navy, the Special Boat Service (SBS), and Hampshire Constabulary is underway. Police have placed an officer on observation at Cowleaze Hill, closely monitoring the tense situation from a distance.
