One-Year-Old Nicholas Dies in Suspected Fentanyl Poisoning
Tragedy struck at the Divino Niño nursery in New York last month when one-year-old Nicholas Dominici and three other kids suddenly fell gravely ill. Sadly, Nicholas did not survive. Authorities suspect deadly fentanyl poisoning was the cause.
Nursery Operators Arrested Over Murder and Drug Charges
The nursery’s operator, Grei Mendez, her husband Felix Herrera Garcia, and Garcia’s cousin Carlisto Brito were all arrested last Thursday. They now face murder and manslaughter charges and are held without bail.
“We trusted them, and they betrayed us,” tearfully said Nicholas’s father, Otoniel Feliz. “I had dreams for my son, now shattered.”
Shocking Drug Haul Hidden Where Kids Nap
Police uncovered a kilogram of fentanyl stashed in a nursery wardrobe. Even more disturbingly, six kilograms of fentanyl, heroin, and other drugs were hidden beneath a trap door under a mat used by children for napping.
Felix Garcia fled to Mexico but was arrested and extradited back to New York. Bronx DA Darcel Clark slammed the nursery as a “catastrophe,” condemning the children’s unwitting role in a narcotics ring.
Denials and Federal Charges Mount
Grei Mendez’s lawyer, Andres Aranda, insists she had no knowledge of the drug operation, claiming her innocence. Meanwhile, all three defendants, plus an unknown fourth person, now face federal drug charges on top of murder and manslaughter.
