Police Dog Eli Sniffs Out Two Crooks in Early Morning Raids

PD Eli, Kent Police’s star sniffer dog, tracked down two suspects in separate theft cases late at night and early morning.

First Suspect Caught Fleeing from Diesel Theft

At about 1.20 a.m. on June 20, PD Eli picked up the scent of a man who had bolted from a car near lorries parked off the A2 near Harbledown. Officers found a large bowser filled with stolen diesel in the vehicle.

The 32-year-old suspect was arrested on suspicion of theft but later released on bail while investigations continue.

High-Speed Chase Ends with Stinger and Hideout Bust

Just hours later at 5.25 a.m., PD Eli located a second suspect hiding in thick bushes. This 34-year-old had abandoned a stolen Maserati in the Leeds area of Maidstone after a reckless high-speed chase. Police stopped the car with a stinger device.

The driver faced multiple charges including theft, reckless driving, failing to stop, and driving under the influence. His 34-year-old passenger was also arrested for suspected theft.

The flashy Maserati had reportedly been stolen in the Thames Valley. Both men are now in custody with 1.

Police Praise PD Eli’s Incredible Nose

“PD Eli and others like him are an invaluable asset to Kent Police and truly are a part of the team,” said Chief Inspector Craig West. “Because of their incredible sense of smell, no matter how dark or dense a hiding place is, the person will almost certainly be sniffed out in the end.”
