Rush Hour Chaos as Dustcart Goes Up in Flames on A2 London Road, Faversham

A dustcart was left completely gutted after a fire erupted behind the cab on the busy A2 London Road in Faversham during Monday’s morning rush hour. The blaze forced the road to close both ways briefly, with traffic now managed by police as recovery teams remove the wrecked vehicle.

Road Closure and Delays

The A2 is expected to remain partially closed, with only one lane open for some time due to extensive oil spills and road damage caused by the fire. The dustcart had just started its rubbish collection round when flames suddenly tore through the vehicle.

Firefighters Battle Blaze

  • The driver spotted the fire near Upper St Ann’s Road and stopped immediately, halting rubbish collection on the 1 Road.
  • Two fire engines arrived shortly before 7.30am to tackle the inferno.
  • Firefighters had to break through the side of the truck and stand on its roof after hydraulic failure left the back inaccessible.
  • The driver, employed by Biffa Waste Services, escaped unharmed.

Investigation Underway

Fire crews spent around 40 minutes at the scene. The cause of the fire remains unknown. Firefighters praised the support from Biffa Waste Services during the incident.
