Woman in 60s Dies in Horrific Multi-Car Smash in County Down
A woman in her 60s has been tragically killed and eight others—including three children—rushed to hospital after a serious crash on County Down’s Portaferry Road.
Three Vehicles Collide in Morning Crash
The smash happened just after 10:20am on Friday involving a red lorry, a silver Citroen Berlingo people carrier, and a white Audi A3.
Inspector Cherith Adair of the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Collision Investigation Unit said:
“A red lorry travelling towards Greyabbey collided with a Citroen Berlingo and an Audi A3, both heading towards Newtownards. Sadly, a female passenger in the Citroen Berlingo, aged in her 60s, died at the scene.”
Eight Hospitalised, Road Remains Closed
Among those hospitalised were three men, two women, and three children. Their condition remains undisclosed.
Portaferry Road is currently closed as police continue their investigation at the scene.
Police Urge Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Inspector Adair has appealed for anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage to contact the police. She said:
“Our detectives are keen to hear from anyone with information that could assist the investigation.”
