Wickham Horse Fair Sparks Major Road Chaos
Motorists brace yourselves! Wickham Horse Fair returns on Monday 21 May, and police are warning that road closures will cause serious delays. Wickham Square will be shut to all traffic from noon on Sunday 20 May until 8pm Monday evening.
Major Road Closures Hit the A334
The A334 will be closed between the Blind Lane traffic lights and the A32 roundabout from 5am to 8pm on Monday. Horse boxes will be parked on the east side of the A334, between the north end of the Square and the junction of Blind Lane and Titchfield Lane.
Be warned: any vehicles parked illegally will be towed without mercy. Clear signage is in place to warn drivers about the closures.
Plan Ahead or Get Stuck
If you’re NOT attending the fair, police suggest finding alternative routes to avoid gridlock around Wickham. Locals affected by restricted access have been given a special emergency phone number for help.
Police Ready for Crowds and Chaos
“Wickham Horse Fair has a long history and is expected to attract over a thousand visitors this year,” said a Hampshire Constabulary spokesman. “We’re working closely with local partners to keep everyone safe and minimise disruption.”
He added, “If you’re coming to the event, make sure you know the road closures and parking rules. Officers in high-visibility uniforms will be on hand throughout to tackle any issues.”
Fair-goers and commuters alike should prepare for delays and limited parking. Lock in your travel plans now to avoid getting caught in the chaos!
