In a bid to get away, the victim jumped into a car but crashed into nearby metal barriers. Emergency services rushed him to a London hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police swiftly arrested Malik on Burmarsh Road soon after the attack.

28 Years Behind Bars for Attempted Murder

After a trial at Canterbury Crown Court, Malik was found guilty of attempted murder on Tuesday 4 October 2022. On Tuesday 20 December, he was sentenced to 28 years in prison plus an extra two years on licence.

Detective Constable Max Pegler of Kent Police said: “This was an extremely disturbing incident and it is only thanks to the response of medics that we are not dealing with an even more serious case.”

“I hope Malik’s quick arrest, conviction, and lengthy sentence provide reassurance to the victim and the wider community.”
