Swindon Man Jailed for Sex Attack in Car Park
A Swindon man has been locked up for seven-and-a-half years after sexually assaulting a woman in a town centre car park.
Horrific Assault on Car Park Rooftop
Dean Clark, 34, from David Murray John Tower, Canal Walk, was found guilty of sexual assault by penetration at Swindon Crown Court last month. He was sentenced yesterday (15/09) for the brutal attack.
The assault happened on the evening of July 3, 2018. The victim was on the top floor of Brunel West Car Park when Clark approached her. As she tried to escape towards the stairwell, Clark followed and attacked her.
Quick Police Action Leads to Conviction
The victim, shaken but brave, immediately called the police and waited nearby at Milton Road. Thanks to her quick response, officers swiftly arrested Clark.
Detective Constable Rob Barratt said:
“Clark was opportunistic and took advantage of a woman in a very vulnerable position. The victim did the right thing in alerting the police immediately. That helped secure this conviction.”
Police Urge Other Victims to Speak Out
Clark was acquitted of six other charges, but the serious conviction stands. Det Const Barratt added:
“I hope this sentence can offer some closure to the victim. I would encourage anyone affected by sexual assault to come forward and report it.”
