74 Protesters to Face Court Over Chaotic Kent Road Blockades

Seventy-four individuals are set to appear in court over a series of disruptive protests that slammed Kent’s roads and the M25 last year. The incidents, which snarled traffic near the Port of Dover and on busy motorway junctions, took place between September and October 2021.

Kent Police Crack Down After Motorway Madness

Kent Police responded swiftly to several protests causing havoc for motorists. Working hand-in-hand with the Crown Prosecution Service, officers have laid 104 charges against 74 suspects. All are due to face hearings at Crawley Magistrates’ Court starting this April.

Public Nuisance and Obstruction Charges Lead the Way

  • Public Nuisance: Twelve charged for the M25 Junction 3 protest on 13 September, with court appearance on 4 April 2022.
  • Public Nuisance: Twenty-two charged for the M25 Junction 1 incident on 15 September, due in court 6 April 2022.
  • Public Nuisance: Thirty-nine charged over the A20 Dover protest on 24 September, court dates set for 28 and 29 October 2022.
  • Obstruction: Eleven charged for a morning M25 Junction 3 protest on 29 September, appearing 11 April 2022.
  • Obstruction: Sixteen charged for the afternoon protest at the same junction on 29 September, court date 12 April 2022.
  • Obstruction: Two charged following an M25 Junction 1 protest on 27 October, due in court 12 April 2022.
  • Criminal Damage: Two face charges for damaging a police car on the M25 Junction 3, appearing 12 April 2022.

Nearly 20 Protesters Walk Free Without Charges

While the crackdown is firm, 19 protesters arrested amid the chaos were ultimately released without any charges.
