A North Finchley couple has been charged with the murder of their three-month-old son after emergency crews found the baby unresponsive at their home.

Emergency Rush to Baby’s Home

On Friday, 30 January, at 11:34am, police and paramedics stormed a Kingsway address following reports that the infant, known only as Baby A, was lifeless. Medics performed urgent first aid before rushing him to hospital with severe injuries.

Parents Arrested and Charged

The baby’s parents were quickly arrested on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm. By Monday, 2 February, they faced charges of causing or allowing serious physical harm to a child at Ealing Magistrates’ Court. Both were refused bail and remanded in custody.

Baby Dies, Parents Charged with Murder

Tragically, Baby A passed away in hospital on Tuesday, 17 February despite intensive care. A post-mortem is underway. The following day, 18 February, Dounia Chetaouat, 32, and Abdelkader Essid, 44, were charged with murder plus causing or allowing the child’s death.

Upcoming Court Date and Appeal for Witnesses

Chetaouat of Kingsway and Essid of Clandon Gardens are set to appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 23 February after 2pm. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist the investigation.
