Paedo Pair Jailed for 15 Years Over Sick Omegle Child Sex Abuse
A vile couple used the now-defunct chat site Omegle to orchestrate horrific sexual offences involving children. Their twisted actions have landed them a combined 15 years behind bars.
Paedo Duo Caught After Police Probe
Summer Andrew, 23, from Clacton, and Nick Barrett, 23, from Harwich, appeared at chelmsford/" title="Chelmsford" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Chelmsford Crown Court on 17 July. They were sentenced after a lengthy investigation by the Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT), which began in December 2021.
The probe found the couple filmed themselves having sex in exchange for watching live abuse of a four-year-old child.
Guilty Verdicts and Harsh Sentences
- Nick Barrett pleaded guilty to two charges, including engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. He received 12 years, with a minimum of seven to serve in prison. Barrett showed “no insight” into his harmful urges and poses a serious risk to children in the future.
- Summer Andrew denied the charges but was found guilty after a trial in April 2024. She was sentenced to three years in prison.
Both offenders were slapped with Sexual Harm Prevention Orders and indefinite Notification Requirement Orders, ensuring they will be monitored closely for the rest of their lives.
Judge and Police React to Case
Judge Morgan said: “This offence is so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified.”
Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Nicola Hadfield praised her team, saying, “The tireless work of our officers has protected other children from falling victim to Barrett and Andrew.”
She added, “Both offenders will now be registered sex offenders, with every future interaction with children monitored.”
Omegle Shutdown Over Child Abuse Risks
Omegle, a platform that allowed users to video chat with strangers, closed last November after 14 years amid multiple child abuse investigations linked to the site.
Detective Hadfield called the closure “a positive move forward” and welcomed the accountability shown by large online platforms in tackling child exploitation.
