Man Charged After Blaze Sparks Evacuation in Crawley
A man has been charged following a deliberate fire at an apartment block in Crawley. The early morning chaos forced residents to flee their homes, but thankfully everyone is now safe.
Flaming Disturbance on Springfield Road
Just after midnight on Friday, 15 March, police rushed to Yew Court on Springfield Road after reports of a disturbance. The fire, believed to have been set intentionally, sparked an evacuation as flames and smoke spread through the building.
Property Damage and Vehicle Havoc
The drama didn’t stop there. Items were thrown from an apartment window, smashing several parked cars and causing extra damage in the area.
Suspect in Custody
Clint Merritt, 44, from Lowfield Road, Slinford, was arrested and slapped with charges of arson with intent to endanger life, affray, and three counts of criminal damage. He remains in custody ahead of a plea hearing scheduled for 15 April.
