Serious collision on East India Dock Road
A female cyclist was taken to a major trauma centre as a priority following a crash with a car on East India Dock Road near Birchfield Street in Poplar this morning.
The collision happened at around 10.15am, prompting an urgent response from Met Police and the London Ambulance Service (LAS).
Paramedics respond swiftly
Emergency crews arrived within six minutes and treated the woman at the scene before rushing her to hospital. Thankfully, her injuries are not believed to be life-changing.
“We sent an ambulance crew to the scene and it arrived in six minutes,” said a spokesperson for LAS. Our crews treated a woman at the scene, before taking her to a London major trauma centre, as a priority.
Road closures cause major delays
The crash forced the A13 East India Dock Road to close in both directions between Burdett Road and Birchfield Street, causing heavy traffic and delays.
Transport for London (TfL) confirmed the road was reopened shortly after 12.20pm.
Police appeal for witnesses
“Officers were called at 10.17am to a collision involving a car and a cyclist. Her injuries are not believed to be life-changing,” confirmed the Met Police.
An investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage are urged to contact police on 101 or via the Met Police website, quoting the incident reference for April 19.
