At 11.30am on Sunday, four fresh fire crews took over the grueling fight against leftover hotspots. Sticky Situation: Molten Syrup Leak Sparks Environmental Fears
The fire caused molten syrup to leak and spread across the site, raising alarm over potential pollution. Firefighters are now working closely with the Environment Agency and Anglian Water to prevent syrup from contaminating nearby waterways.
Incident Commander Martyn Hare said: “Moving the collapsed parts will create more smoke, so we advise locals to keep doors and windows shut.”
“Our crews have done a superb job controlling the fire, but we’ll be here for some time. Specialist measures are in place to protect the watercourse from leaked material.”
“Thank you to everyone in the area for your patience and support.”
