Laurence Fox Axed by GB News After Ava Evans Row
GB News has cut ties with actor-turned-politician Laurence Fox following a storm over his off-air comments about journalist Ava Evans. The broadcaster faced over 8,000 Ofcom complaints after Fox made inappropriate and personal remarks about the female reporter. GB News also fired presenter Calvin Robinson, who backed Fox and was initially suspended.
Fox and Robinson Suspended, Then Sacked
Both Fox and Robinson were suspended last week while GB News launched an internal probe. The investigation concluded swiftly, ending the duo’s contracts. A spokesperson said, “Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson were both suspended last week pending internal investigations that have now concluded. As of today, GB News has ended its employment relationship with Laurence Fox and Calvin Robinson.”
Dan Wootton Also Under Fire After 8,800 Complaints
The scandal didn’t stop there. Presenter Dan Wootton is also suspended amid an Ofcom investigation. His show on September 26 sparked 8,846 complaints, forcing Wootton to issue an apology. GB News boss Angelos Frangopoulos called the comments “not in line with the channel’s values.” Meanwhile, MailOnline, where Wootton wrote columns, has terminated his contract.
Fox Arrested in London Over ULEZ Camera Plot
The drama deepened with Fox’s arrest following a police raid on his Stockwell home in south London. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the actor’s arrest on suspicion of conspiracy to commit criminal damage to Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) cameras and encouraging offences. He was held at a South London police station overnight.
