Milton Keynes Man Found Guilty of Murder After Deadly Stabbing

A 25-year-old man from Milton Keynes has been convicted of murder following a fatal stabbing last December. Lee Sopp, from Daniels Welch, was found guilty by a unanimous jury today (20/10) after a 10-day trial at Luton Crown Court.

Details of the Fatal Attack

The deadly attack happened on 11 December 2019 in woodland near the footbridge linking Fishermead and Milton Keynes town centre. Victim Mohamud Hashi, just 22, was fatally stabbed in the right thigh. A post mortem confirmed the stab wound was the cause of death.

Additional Charges and Arrest

  • Sopp was found not guilty of aggravated burglary and wounding with intent.
  • At an earlier hearing on 29 June 2020, he pleaded guilty to possession of offensive weapons, possession with intent to supply class A drugs (diamorphine and crack cocaine), and possession of criminal property.

He was arrested on 12 December and charged three days later. Sentencing is set for 22 October at Luton Crown Court.

Police Comment

“I would like to thank Mohamud Hashi’s family for their support throughout this investigation and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult and challenging time,” said Detective Inspector Mike Roddy of the Major Crime Unit. “They now understand all too well the devastating impact violent crime has on families and communities. Mohamud was taken from them by someone who chose to carry a weapon. Tackling serious violence remains a top priority for Thames Valley Police, and we are committed to ensuring offenders face justice.”
