A serious probe is underway after Lisa Clarke, a convicted murderer serving life in HMP Styal, died while in custody.

Who Was Lisa Clarke?

Clarke, 53, was locked up for life in 2013 for the savage torture and murder of Brian Farmer, a former soldier, in Yardley, Birmingham. She was ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years behind bars.

Three others were also jailed for the chilling killing. Vaughan Davies, 18, and Jason Andrews, 40, received life sentences at Birmingham Crown Court, with Andrews facing at least 27 years. Peter Knowles, 52, was given 14 years for manslaughter.

The Victim: Former Soldier Brian Farmer

Brian Farmer, 64, was found dead in his Yardley flat on May 19, 2012. Police revealed he had been stabbed, had broken ribs, and suffered severe bruising.

A father of two, Farmer served 22 years in the Army with the Queen’s Own Royal Irish Hussars, including tours in Northern Ireland and the Gulf. He retired as a Mess Sergeant in 1993.

How Did Clarke Die?

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO) confirmed Clarke died on October 26 at the women-only prison in Wilmslow, Cheshire. She was later taken to a hospital in Greater Manchester where she passed away.

An inquest was opened and adjourned at Warrington Coroner’s Court on Wednesday. The PPO has launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Clarke’s death.
