Man Charged with Murder of 68-Year-Old in Cork

Aaron Wolfe, 29, from Glentransna Court, The Glen, Cork, faced Cork District Court in a grim hearing. He stands accused of murdering 68-year-old Florence ‘Florrie’ O’Sullivan earlier this year.

Assault Charge Upgraded to Murder

Wolfe was initially charged with assault causing harm in March, but that charge has now been dropped in favour of a murder charge. O’Sullivan died on April 6th at Cork University Hospital, following the alleged attack on March 11th at Glentrasna Court.

Case Moves to Central Criminal Court

Detective Garda Caitriona Molloy gave evidence of the arrest and charge. She told Judge Olann Kelleher Wolfe remained silent when formally charged with murder. Due to the seriousness of the case, Wolfe was denied bail, and legal aid was granted with solicitor Frank Buttimer appointed.

Sergeant Lyons confirmed the Director of Public Prosecutions has referred the case to the Central Criminal Court for trial or plea. Wolfe’s legal team confirmed a trial will proceed, and a full book of evidence will be prepared.

Further Court Date Set

Dressed in a dark tracksuit, Wolfe said nothing during the brief hearing. He is due back in Cork District Court on September 27th via video link from prison.

The Victim’s Tragic Story

Florence O’Sullivan, originally from Adrigole in West Cork, lived in a Cork city flat for many years before moving to Carrigaline. On March 11th, she was found badly injured on the street at Glentrasna Court. Despite treatment, she passed away weeks later.

The postmortem, carried out by Assistant State Pathologist Dr. Margaret Bolster, led to the case being upgraded to a murder investigation.
