A 55-year-old antiques dealer, Robert Peters, has been charged with the murder of a child in Merton. Peters appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 4 November.

Emergency services were called to a Blenheim Road address, SW20, on Friday morning at 8am. A seven-year-old girl was found with critical injuries and rushed to a south-west London hospital. Her condition was life-threatening.

Peters was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder the same day and taken to a south London police station. By the next morning, the charge was upgraded to murder following the girl’s tragic death. The man is known to the victim.

Police hunt no one else

Officers confirmed they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case. The investigation continues as the community reels from the shocking tragedy.
