New Year’s Day Nightmare: Man Nabbed for Speeding and Drink Driving on M4
A motorist was caught red-handed speeding at 96mph and driving under the influence just after midnight on New Year’s Day.
Nerijus Kavaliunas’s High-Speed DUI
Nerijus Kavaliunas, 34, from Borodin Close, Basingstoke, was pulled over after his Volkswagen Polo blazed along the M4 at nearly triple the usual speed limit.
At 2am on January 1, officers stopped the car and a roadside breath test revealed Kavaliunas had a staggering 170 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath — more than four times the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
Vehicle Seized, Passengers Safe
- Police seized the VW Polo immediately.
- His two passengers were taken to Gablecross Police Station for their own safety.
- A follow-up breath test in custody showed Kavaliunas still had a massive 161 micrograms of alcohol in his system.
Facing Court and Serious Charges
Kavaliunas was charged with speeding and drink driving. He was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court today (January 2).
“This case highlights the dangers of drink driving and the consequences of excessive speed. We are committed to keeping our roads safe and urge all motorists to act responsibly.”
The 34-year-old now faces heavy fines, a driving ban, and possibly harsher penalties.
