Stanley Knife-Wielding Thief Jailed for Brazen Abbey Wood Co-op Robbery

A man armed with a Stanley knife snatched about £80 of tea and coffee from the Co-op on McLeod Road, Abbey Wood. Jake Tomkinson, 31, homeless and desperate, tried to make off with the goods on January 29. But his sharp weapon only sharpened the case against him.
Quick Arrest Leads to Conviction
Tomkinson was arrested soon after the theft, caught with the knife in hand. He denied all charges but was found guilty of shop theft and carrying a knife in public at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on March 24.
Jail Sentence Sends Strong Message
On April 8, Tomkinson was handed a six-month prison sentence. He must serve at least half before any chance of release. Locals breathed a sigh of relief, with one shop worker saying: “It’s a reminder that these offences won’t be taken lightly.”
Now locked up in a London prison, Tomkinson’s cautionary tale will echo for anyone thinking crime and knifes mix well in Abbey Wood.
