Man Who Threw Petrol Bomb at Police Officer in Boston Found Guilty

Petrol Bomb Attack in Boston Shocks Police

A man has been found guilty after hurling a petrol bomb at a police officer during a terrifying New Year’s Day showdown in Boston. David Wiatrowski, 36, also threatened officers with an imitation firearm in a chilling bid to cause panic.

Boredom Sparks Dangerous New Year’s Day Rampage

The shocking incident unfolded in the early hours of 1 January when police responded to 999 calls about a man smashing windows at an Aldi supermarket with a hammer. A lone officer arrived to face Wiatrowski, who was armed with a fake gun.

Without warning, Wiatrowski lit a petrol bomb and threw it at the officer’s car, soaking the ground with fuel just feet from the vehicle. Luckily, the bottle didn’t break, narrowly avoiding a catastrophic explosion.

He then cocked his imitation firearm and advanced, forcing the officer to reverse to safety as Wiatrowski fled the scene.

Caught on CCTV and Confessing to ‘Boredom’

Police identified Wiatrowski from CCTV footage showing him filling a bottle at a petrol station. A public Facebook appeal helped track him down, leading to his arrest at home on 10 January.

During questioning, Wiatrowski chillingly admitted he acted out of boredom and confessed he wanted to make officers “think they were going to die.”

Convicted and Facing Jail

After a three-day trial at Lincoln Crown Court, Wiatrowski was convicted of:

  • Attempting to cause an explosion with intent to endanger life
  • Possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence (admitted)
  • Affray and criminal damage (admitted)

He faces sentencing on 2 October and is expected to be deported once his sentence is served.

Detective Inspector Melissa Rooke: “This was a calculated and entirely senseless act, carried out with blatant disregard for the impact it would have. Our officers faced an individual whose clear objective was to instil fear and potentially inflict serious harm. They responded with enormous bravery.”

Brave Police Prevented Disaster

This case highlights the constant dangers frontline officers face and the importance of quick police responses to stop potential disasters before they unfold.
