Mother Charged With Murder After Toddler Found Dead in Pond

A mother has been charged with the murder of her two-year-old daughter, who was found dead in a pond after going missing in Kingsley, Hampshire.

Tragic Disappearance and Shocking Discovery

On September 10, 2023, little Annabel Mackey vanished from her family home, sparking a frantic police search. Just half a mile away, she was discovered unresponsive in Kingsley Pond near their £650,000 property.

Despite emergency treatment after being rushed to hospital, Annabel died the following day.

Her mother, 42-year-old Alice Mackey, has been charged with murder and is now in custody awaiting a court appearance.

Annabel’s father, Peter Mackey, described his daughter as a “beautiful, positive, and very happy little girl.”

“She had an incredibly pure and caring nature that we miss so much. She loved storytime, dogs, and her dolly. She enjoyed singing songs and nursery rhymes and had a very sweet tooth.”

Police Launch Major Crime Probe

Hampshire Constabulary launched a major investigation following Annabel’s death, including searches by police divers in Kingsley Pond to uncover the full circumstances.

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said:

“A woman arrested following the death of a two-year-old girl found at Kingsley Pond in September 2023 has today (Tuesday, 4 March) been charged with murder.

Alice Mackey, 42, of Gibbs Lane in Oakhanger, has been remanded into custody to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 5 March 2025.”
